I found this after downloading Ukulele Hunt‘s free guide “So You’ve Just Got Your First Ukulele” and it is by far the best free software-based ukulele tuner I have come across. This is a small piece of software that you can download to your Windows desktop or laptop for free, and there is also a Mac desktop or laptop alternative.
I have used the Windows desktop version and it works excellently with the built-in microphone on my laptop. The desktop application itself is highly customisable and adjustable, it has pre-set note recognition so it can be used to tune Guitar, Bass, Violin, Viola and Cello. The Guitar – Standard E setting works fine for ukulele with high G tuning.
There are several setting I have not had an opportunity to try out yet, like adjusting the Middle A frequency and Transposing. This free tuner is a great addition to the home setup, the only downfall being that it will not work well in areas of high background noise. For tuning in loud areas or during gigs your best bet is a clip-on tuner.
